Art Residencies
Applications for the following residencies are now open. Artists can apply for a stay of between 1 to 4 weeks.
About Your Residency
Application to the Greenhills Artist Residency programme is via the online application form, which requests examples of work, as well inviting applicants to detail what they hope to achieve while at the Centre. Applications are open to all creative disciplines, including but not exclusively: visual artists, photographers, illustrators, printmakers, product designers, graphic designers, fashion designers, jewelry designers, filmmakers, screenwriters, playwrights, novelists, journalists. Residencies start on a Monday and finish on a Sunday for a period of up to 4 weeks, (Exceptions are occasionally made to the duration and/or start and finish days under special circumstances. Please outline your requirements on the online application form and we will do our best to accommodate your dates). Applications are open to amateur, mid-career and established artists.
EXPECTATION
During your time at the residency, there is no expectation for the artist to complete a certain number of works, to contribute a piece of work, or to participate in presentations, exhibitions and the like. Whilst ideally residents may want to walk away with a number of completed works, it is appreciated that everyone works at a different pace and some residents may wish to use their time here to plan, contemplate and be inspired about their creative journey moving forward.
Residents are encouraged to engage with fellow artists throughout their stay to ensure they get the most out of their time at the Centre. There will be the occasional opportunity to participate in day trips to local galleries, attractions, places of interest and dinner in a local restaurant. These outings are not compulsory, and artists can choose to attend or opt out and stay at the centre.
ITINERARY
During your time at the residency, you will fill your days working on self-led projects. Your days can start and finish as you choose and access to the studio is 24hrs a day. Should you require any provisions from town, we can drive you there and back (if you do not have access to a vehicle). There will be the opportunity to participate in the occasional day outings including visiting local attractions, local galleries, walks around the historic precinct of York, field trips for plein air painters etc. We do not plan outings every day as we do not want to take too much time away from your creative practice.
