Join Mel at the Greenhills Art Centre for an immersive portrait painting workshop where she will step you through classic and contemporary oil painting techniques focusing on layering paint to create a realistic portrait.
This workshop will focus on:

Creating realistic skin colours and textures

Layering paint thinly to create luminosity and a life-like effect

Using mediums and techniques such as glazing and scumbling

Laying realistic foundations early through toning and grisaille
Artist Bio
Mel Taylor is an accomplished contemporary artist based in Western Australia. Working primarily with oils, Mel skilfully captures the essence of Western Australia's breathtaking landscapes and intricacies of the human form.
As an award-winning artist, her keen attention to detail and use of realistic painting techniques bring portraits and landscapes to life, evoking a sense of depth, communication and connection.
Mel is an introspective artist exploring themes of mortality, resilience, and the beauty inherent in life’s challenges. Having faced significant personal trials, she transforms these experiences into artwork that celebrates the complexity of existence.
Operating from her studio nestled in the idyllic Perth hills, surrounded by beautiful bushland, Mel creates visually captivating works merging realism with emotional storytelling.

Independent Stay Package
Greenhills has just eight guest rooms within our historic homestead, making our retreats intentionally small and personal.
We occasionally offer a limited number of places for guests staying in nearby accommodation or in a caravan/motorhome parked at Greenhills.
These guests still enjoy the full retreat experience, including:

Morning and afternoon tea

Lunch and dinner at Greenhills

Evening gatherings and demonstrations

Full access to the studio
The only difference is that accommodation is provided off-site.
Options include:

Accommodation in York (approximately 18 minutes away)

Accommodation at Whitegum Farm (approximately 6 minutes away)
-
Self-contained caravans or motorhomes parked at Greenhills (powered, showers/toilets available)
A reduced retreat fee applies when accommodation is not included.

$1800 includes 4 nights /5daysof accommodation, meals (full board), 3 days tuition, late access to studio, airport transfers and field trips (If applicable). For a full list of inclusions/exclusions click here.
To apply please complete the below application form and an invoice will be sent to you for a deposit of $300 to secure your spot. (Balance due within 60 days of booking/or 60 days prior to workshop (whichever is sooner).
