More Than a Sewing Class
It’s a Creative Country Escape
Whether you’ve just bought your first sewing machine, it has been gathering dust for years, or you’re simply looking for a relaxing weekend of creativity and country hospitality, this retreat offers the opportunity to slow down, learn new skills and enjoy time away from everyday life.
No previous sewing experience is required.
The focus is on helping you become comfortable with your machine, understand the foundations of sewing and gain practical skills you can continue using at home.
Your Weekend Project
Throughout the retreat, you’ll create a beautiful cotton apron that could also make a lovely handmade gift.
You’ll choose from a selection of pre-embroidered panels.
Your embroidery will already be completed before you arrive, allowing you to focus on learning construction techniques and building confidence with your sewing machine.
The final apron style and embroidery options may vary slightly from those shown while Carolina puts the finishing touches on the collection.
What You’ll Learn
Set Up Your Sewing Machine
Learn how to set up your machine correctly and become more comfortable with the basic controls and functions.
Read Sewing Patterns
Begin to understand the information contained in a sewing pattern and how it guides you through a project.
Cut Fabric Correctly
Learn practical techniques for preparing and cutting your fabric with greater confidence.
Essential Sewing Techniques
Work through the fundamental skills needed to complete your apron and begin tackling future sewing projects.
Solve Common Sewing Problems
Learn how to recognise and troubleshoot some of the problems that often frustrate beginner sewers.
Try Industrial Machines
You’ll also have the opportunity to experience industrial sewing machines and see how they differ from domestic machines.
Build Confidence with Your Own Machine
One of the most useful things you can do as a beginner is become familiar with the machine you already own.
That’s why participants are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine where possible.
You’ll spend the weekend learning how to work with it rather than feeling intimidated by it.
By the time you leave, the aim is for your machine to feel much less mysterious — and much more useful.
