Colour Mixing Masterclass with Johanna Larkin
4-5 July 2026
Unlock the mystery of colour 🎨
Learn to mix 180+ colours from just three tubes of paint.
In this two-day masterclass, we slow down and really understand how colour works, not through theory alone, but through careful, hands-on mixing.
You will learn repeatable strategies for mixing colours, learning how to neutralize colours without losing vibrancy so that colours remain clean, not muddy.
You will also create your own studio colour reference book - your personal reference diary.
Together we’ll explore:
• value and temperature
• harmonious colour relationships
• building depth without mud
• matching real-life colour with confidence
You’ll work from a limited palette (ultramarine blue, cadmium red, cadmium yellow, plus white) and create around 180 carefully organized colour variations.
We will also explore the art of mixing chromatic blacks and understanding white and variations of white.
You’ll also build your own personalized colour reference book — a studio tool you’ll return to again and again.
Before you leave, I’ll show you a simple method so that, when you’re ready, you can continue at home and expand your system to nearly 600 colours, simply by growing your palette from three colours to five.

Bio
Johanna is an accomplished award-winning artist with a passion for still life painting. She states that she has long been captivated by the extraordinary beauty that resides within the seemingly ordinary, seeking to do justice to the humble everyday item to uncover the hidden poetry and elegance in objects that often go unnoticed. Her passion for still life led her to take up study in Italy at the Florence Academy of Art in the summer of 2023 and through this creative journey, she has embraced the classical methods to harness the power of realism, chiaroscuro, and composition to breathe life into each painting. Johanna’s time in Italy was the catalyst for Johanna and Greg opening the Greenhills Art Centre in the hope that others may experience the rewards of stepping away from the distractions of everyday life, to dedicate time to work in a creative space alongside other creatives.
